Biological Reports – Where Science Explains Why
Biological Reports invites high-quality original research, reviews, and short communications that go beyond observation and description to uncover the mechanisms underlying scientific phenomena. We welcome submissions that explain how systems work, why processes behave as they do, and what drives cause–effect relationships across disciplines.
In an era of data abundance, the journal emphasizes interpretation, causality, and mechanistic clarity. Studies that integrate experimental evidence with theoretical reasoning, modelling, or system-level analysis are particularly encouraged.
Scope of the call
We invite manuscripts addressing mechanistic understanding in (but not limited to):
- Molecular, cellular, and biochemical mechanisms
- Chemical reaction pathways and catalytic processes
- Systems biology, network regulation, and signalling dynamics
- Mechanistic aspects of disease progression and therapeutic response
- Physical, material, and environmental process mechanisms
- Computational, mathematical, and modelling-based mechanistic studies
- Innovative experimental or analytical methods enabling mechanistic insight
Interdisciplinary studies and works that bridge traditional subject boundaries are especially welcome.
Why Publish with Biological Reports?
- Emphasis on mechanistic depth, not just descriptive outcomes
- Rigorous and transparent peer-review process
- Rapid editorial handling with expert reviewers
- Open-access platform ensuring global visibility
- Welcoming to early-career researchers and interdisciplinary teams
Article types accepted
- Original Research Articles
- Review Articles
- Short Communications
- Letters to the Editor
Detailed author guidelines are available on the journal website.
Who should submit?
- Researchers aiming to explain mechanisms rather than report correlations
- Scientists developing models, frameworks, or mechanistic interpretations
- Interdisciplinary teams combining experiments and theory
- Early-career researchers with strong conceptual contributions
Submission information
Manuscripts should be prepared according to the Guide for Authors and submitted through the journal’s online submission system. All submissions undergo editorial screening followed by peer review.
Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis.
